The Golden Generation continues to do as it should and after a long 3,123 days since last qualifying for a World Cup, and 1,632 days since the historic loss to Trinidad and Tabago, the USA is back where it belongs!

Even after a bitter end to the Concacaf World Cup qualifying stage with a 2–0 loss away at Costa Rica, the United States Mens national team (USMNT) finished third in the group which was enough to automatically put them in the field of 32 in Qatar .

Speaking after the match about qualifying for the World Cup, Christian Pulisic said “Now to be in this position and qualify for the World Cup, we’re all extremely proud. This is where I’ve always wanted to be, and right now, my emotions are crazy.”

Coming in third place behind Canada and Mexico is not what the U.S team or fans would have wanted after winning both the Cocacaf Nations League and Gold Cup over the summer, but getting into the World Cup is more of a pass/fail assignment and in November of 2022 people won’t remember the USA coming third, they will see one of the youngest and most promising teams ever to be assembled take the field for the USA.

Head Coach Gregg Berhalter tried to keep everything in perspective after the game on Wednesday night. “For us, it’s about keeping things in perspective,” Berhalter said. “And the perspective is we’re the youngest U.S. team to ever qualify for the World Cup.”

The next big thing for the team and its fans is the World Cup draw on Friday to determine who the USMNT will be playing in the group stage of the tournament.

For now and for the next few months at least, U.S fans can take a deep breath and feel confident in a young squad that has a togetherness both off and on the field that has promised to make some noise across the world for years to come… starting in November at this years World Cup in Qatar.
